A theatre director and head of BA World Performance East15 University of Essex (UK)
Ramiro Silveira is an international Theatre Director, Senior Lecturer, Actor Trainer and Researcher. He holds a PhD in Theatre Pedagogy – Theatre Artist Training from University of São Paulo (Brazil), a MFA in Theatre Directing from University of Middlesex (UK) and a BA Theatre Directing from Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (Brazil). He also trained with Eugenio Barba, Thomas Leabhart, Philippe Gaulier and Genadi Bogdanov. He is known for his innovative theatre rehearsal process (subject of his PhD thesis) called Theatre Playground, a study of presence and relation based on rhythm, movement and multicultural references in order to inspire creative connections. Since 2001 he has been using his technique to direct theatre and run acting and directing workshops all over the world. Working professionally as theatre director since 1995, Ramiro has directed more than 30 plays in Brazil and abroad and has received several awards, including the Volkswagen Theatre Award for “The Bald Soprano” by Ionesco and the Brazilian International Press Award UK for his achievements as an international theatre director. Other recent productions includes “The Unlikely Life of Leonard Langley” by Teresa Zoers-Taylor (London Courtyard Theatre and Southend Clifftown Theatre), “For Elise” by Grace Passô (Embassy of Brazil in London), “Reality Final” by Michelle Ferreira (SESC Pinheiros - São Paulo, Brazil), “The Wedding Dress” by Nelson Rodrigues (The Black Box Theatre – Oslo, Norway), “Twelfth Night” by Shakespeare (MUBE Theatre – São Paulo Brazil), “True West” by Sam Shepard (many important venues in Brazil), among many others. Since 2015 Ramiro is the head of the BA World Performance course at East15 – University at Essex, UK.
